Gosh, it's beeen forever since I've been tagged in one of these!
1. How do YOU feel about Hiumi?
I like her design. Her colors seem frosty, but her personality seems warm. I like her dynamic pose.
2. Are you interested in learning any foreign languages?
Over the years, I've dabbed in Spanish, American Sign Language, and Japanese. I want to continue with Japanese and some day dream of fluency.
3. When you have lots of homework, do you do it all at once or do you procrastinate with it?
Currently procrastinating. Partly from habit, partly from depression. By some miracle I manage to get straight As. I COULD LITERALLY CRY ON THE INSIDE TYPING THAT, ABUBUBU.
Currently planning to do "halfsies" binge-studying with a friend in a similar position for an exam on Wednesday. I'll do half the readings and their study guide. She'll do the other half. Then we'll pool our resources and somehow pass this class! Woot!
4. Do you like MY "new" art style better than my old one?
That's irrelevant. It's what YOU like and enjoy to do that matters.
5. Do you think MY art is in need of improvement?
Everyone's art is in need of improvement. We're human. We imagine perfection as an abstract concept whereas there is no true perfection. Perfection is in growth itself. It's the never-ending journey, not the fantastical destination.
6. What do you think you need to improve most about YOUR art?
7. Did you know how to use a computer when you were a young child?
Not in the least. We had computer classes for the later portion of elementary school where we played educational computer games for an hour and that was it. I loved the teacher's name though. Mr. Nesbitt.
I had special permission to stay in my English class during lunch recess in middle school to use the school's traveling laptop lab. In the accelerated classes, all documents had to be typed, and my teachers did not like how mine were typed on an old-fashioned type-writer from the thrift store.
In high school, I had a desktop/tower with Windows XP installed but the tower had no memory stick portion- only floppy-disk- and no printer. I had to bring an external floppy-disk drive to school with my floppy disk, plug-in the drive to the USB port of one of the school computers, and print from their computer lab.
With the financial aid I received for college, I finally got me an up-to-date laptop that I'm still using about 5 years later~ haha It's very outdated now.
8. Are you in love with someone at the moment?
Very much so, and very unexpectedly. We both had terrible first experiences with relationships with other people and swore to remain alone. Many years later our friendship turned into a relationship. We've been together nearly two years now and hope to spend our lives together.
9. Would you rather be a mermaid, a fairy, a centaur, an angel, or a werewolf?
That depends on the context of each. In my vision of them, I think I'd prefer to be an angel. I want peace and safety, even from my own thoughts. I want calmness and nothing to be in a hurry. I want time to work on my comics and the peace to do it in.
10. If you were a time-traveler, would you rather travel to the past or to the future and why?
I would travel to the past and stop me from doing two things... Firstly, from the mean thing I said to "tease" my uncle just hours before he OD'd believing that I could apologize to him later and tell him I loved him, and secondly, to prevent myself from ever being in a relationship with my first love due to the horrid mistake it was and the PTSD that came after it.
11. If your nose made a squeaking or honking sound when touched, would you like it or be ashamed of it?
Literally, my carpool buddy, The Becca, and I keep touching each other's noses and saying a high-pitched, "Boop!" so I don't think that is too much of an issue. XD
12. A ball is dropped from a height of 32 feet. It bounces and rebounds
80% of the height from which it was falling. What is the total
downward distance, in feet, the ball traveled up to the 12th bounce?
(Yeah, I'm making you do math, LOL)
Que extremely long math rant...
Damn it. I always hated math~!
32ft + 12(0.8[32ft]) = x
32ft + 12(25.6ft) = X
No, no, this can't be right... Damn it, I want to draw it! Not use a written formula!
Curse you, angeeeeeeeeeeeeel!! D : <
32ft + (32ftx0.8)^12 = x
I can't remember if you solve the parenthesis first
or if you apply the power of 12 to each variable within the parenthesis
when a power is being calculated.
32ft+ (25.6ft)^12 = x
32ft + (7.9228163e+16) = x
Google calculator, how?! WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEEEEEAN?!?!?!
. . . The Scientific Calculator app on Windows gave me a ridiculously long number with the same numbers expanded.
My Very Eager Mother just Served Us Nine Pizzas.
Omigod, that's the planets in the solar system...
Parenthesis, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction.
. . . I had to look up the E. It's Exponents.
Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction
where Multiplication and Division and equal priority and linearly solved,
as well as addition and subtraction to each other.
I got this...
32ft + (32ft x 0.80)^12 = x
. . . I'm getting weary of this equation. . .
The parenthesis would be solved first according to PEMDAS, but let's try the other way real fast just in case . . .
32ft + (32ft^12 x 0.80^12)
Good lord, too many numbers.
If this your devious plan? Make the numbers ridiculously long, dear?
How on earth do I formulate this equation?
Let's see... We start at 32 feet...
...Then it ascends 80% of 32 ft. In math, "of" means to multiply. Since it ascended that high, that means it must also fall that same distance. We are looking for the distance that the ball fell.
32ft + (80% x 32ft)
This is repeated 12 times. Hmm... So...
32ft + (80% x 32ft) + 80%(80% x 32ft) +80%(80%[80% x 32ft]) and so on 12 times...
This has to translate to an exponent of 12,
but where to put the exponent and how to apply it?
The 80% is what is duplicating, first once, then twice, then three times as the 32ft remains constant. That must be what variable the power of twelve is applied to. An exponent/ the power of 12 means that a variable is multiplied by itself 12 times... 80% is the only variable doing so...
32ft + 80%^12x32ft = x
To make life simpler, I'll convert the percentage to its equivalent decimal point.
32ft + 0.8^12 x 32ft = x
According to PEMDAS, Exponents are handled first in this equation.
I rounded the solution to the nearest tenth decimal place, as represented by the "~" meaning "approximately."
32ft + ~0.07 x 32ft = x
According to PEMDAS, multiplication comes next.
32ft +~2.24ft = x
I find this very hard to believe given the second added variable should have been 80% x 32ft, equaling 25.6ft. This means that the complete number of descended feet from bouncing should be more than 25.6ft, but in this equation, I have the at ~2.24ft. Something is still wrong...
-sigh- I see now.
32ft + (80% x 32ft) + (80%^2 x 32ft) + (80%^3 x 23ft) . . . no.
That cannot work either because with PEMDAS, the exponent would be calculated first since it is within the parenthesis. Hmmmm. . .
32ft + (80% x 32ft) + (80% x 32ft)^2 + (80% x 32ft)^3 ... no.
That cannot work either as the 32 ft is being adjusted by the exponent as well.
. . . Or should it? hmm. . . More thinking.
. . .
This has got to be a formula using algebraic mathematics. I was good at that, but I always hated word problems for this reason! Hmmm... Maybe it is geometry after all... Since in a sense it visually is represented as a wavelength. Hmmm.... I don't recall how to use cosin, sin, and tangent in word problems. It's been about 9 years since I last used them.
There's got to be something obvious and simple that I'm lacking here.
I know the basic concept of this formula is correct:
32ft + (80% x 32ft) + 80%(80% x 32ft) +80%(80%[80% x 32ft]) and so on 12 times...
I just don't know how to simplify it.
Honestly, had I typed out all of this into the calculator, I'd probably have the equation solved by now~
32ft + (80%x) . . . I just realized I've been using x as a symbol of multiplication as well as the variable that we are solving for. OTL Switching to use asterisks in place of the multiplication symbol. Dropping the ft as well to not confuse the unit of measurement with variables.
32 + (80%x)^12
where x equals distance of descent. . . but how to formulate that?
32 + (80%x)^12 where. . . hmmm. . .
x + y = 32 + y (x is decent down and y is ascent up)
subtract y from both sides
32 + (80%x)^12
32 + (0.8*32)^12
32 + (25.6)^12
rounded to the nearest 10th
32 + 79,228,162,514,264,337.34
I don't believe that in the slightest.
But perhaps it is correct? I don't know.
You tell me, angel.
Tell me how you solve this.
. . . No, that can't be right. OTL We want to ADD 80%x to itself 12 times, not multiply it to itself 12 times...
Let me see. . .
3^5 = 243 (calculator)
That means that it has to be 3 multiplied by itself five times.
How the hell do you add things together 5 times..?
. . . OMIGOD, SIMPLE MULTIPLICATION.
32 + 12(0.8*32)
32 + 12(25.6)
32 + 307.2
. . . I am so mad at myself right now.
Goddamn it, that got me right back where I started and is still wrong.
HOW DO YOU DO IT, ANGEL?
I AM TOO OLD TO REMEMBER.
NOW ON TO MY GOSHDAMNED QUESTIONS,YA DIG?
1) What socks are you currently wearing? (If no socks, yell, "I'M NAKED!")
2) What is your favorite snack food?
3) Why did you start a deviantART account?
4) What is your favorite social media platform? Explain.
5) Do you believe that all artists need a Big Idea (BI, also known as Enduring Ideas) to be successful/good/an artist?
(A Big Idea is an overarching theme of an artist's work, that is then broken down into smaller concepts and explored in the individual series/works themselves. You can look up more info online, especially from an art education context.)
6) Do you have a BI? If so, what is it/ what do you think it is? If not, what is your current interest in art?
7) What do you want to do with your art?
8) What media are you enjoying recently (ie a specific book/television series, movie, podcast, etc)?
9) Take a deep breath. Get something nice and relaxing to drink that is not a chemically-altering substance (not alcohol). Adjust yourself in your seat. Breath again. Now... What is one thing you like about yourself?
10) What advice would you give someone who could not answer the above question? (Be kind. You never know who is secretly suffering.)
11) What is one healthy thing that you do to relax (again, no chemically-altering substances)?
12) What is one thing that has been bothering you lately, and a reasonable step that you can take to either eliminate or minimize that stressor?
(Remember, limitations are nothing to be ashamed about. We all have them, and they vary from person to person and day to day. It's important to know and acknowledge what our limitations are, and learn to work with them instead of against them, to have fulfillment in our lives. If it does not work after a few tries, come up with a new solution. Don't give up on a better, happier, healthier you. <3 )
I tag the following 12 people to answer the questions either in the comments below or in their own journals, and welcome anyone else who would like to answer as well:
I love you, dearies! Do you best to take care of yourselves!
(I thought this would be nice after your bullying PSA) (Still got to memorize your new username)
Few~! I can't believe I actually came up with 12 still active-ish people on here. ;u;
Thank you for reading.
